  • SCHA Initiatives:

    • Stop BSI Project - The South Carolina Hospital Association Every Patient Counts Team and the South Carolina Healthcare Alliance for Infection Prevention (SCHAIP) are excited to partner with Dr. Peter Pronovost and his Johns Hopkins Quality Improvement Team to offer the national “STOP BSI” initiative to our South Carolina member hospitals.

    • SC Mission: Lifeline - A collaborative partnership between the South Carolina Hospital Association, South Carolina Chapter of American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, South Carolina Chapter of the College of Emergency Physicians, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Office of Emergency Medical Services, all 17 of the South Carolina hospitals that provide interventional cardiac services, and patient advocates.

    • Board Resource Manual - The SCHA Board of Trustees and the SCHA Quality Council are committed to providing useful educational tools and resources to the leadership teams of our member hospitals. With this in mind, our Quality and Patient Safety Team has developed a comprehensive glossary of healthcare terms, acronyms and definitions to help your Board members understand the language of medicine.

      This site contains data on how South Carolina hospitals are performing in key areas of patient safety, quality and service, data that is voluntarily collected and provided by hospitals to demonstrate progress made toward achieving, and in some cases, exceeding national patient safety goals using evidence-based measures.

    • SC Heart Care Alliance - a statewide, collaborative framework to enhance quality and safety of hospital-based cardiac care.

    • Accelerating Improvement Network (AIN): Eliminating MRSA - Wave 2
      Hospital-acquired infections (HAI) have become a focal point in the health care industry's efforts to improve clinical outcomes. HAIs are a major target in such industry-wide efforts as the 5 Million Lives Campaign and the Surgical Care Improvement program. These programs focus on preventing or eliminating ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), Central line infections, and surgical site infections. Twenty-three SC facilities are participating in VHA's MRSA collaborative. This national effort brings together industry leading subject matter experts, data measurement tools, and a broad network of peer organizations to facilitate reduction of MRSA infections.

    • Pressure Ulcer Task Force
      Pressure Ulcer Task Force will promote statewide culture change through adopting and promoting evidence based practice for pressure ulcer prevention and treatment.

    • SC Infection Prevention Network (SCIP-N) - SCIP-N is the action arm for communication and education for the HIDA Committee.  This committee will guide and support future statewide partnerships/collaboration concerning HAI prevention in South Carolina to create a visible statewide network that sets clear expectations.

  • Medication Safety Toolkit
    The Medication Safety Toolkit contains tools to improve communication between the patient and all healthcare providers/practitioners about an individual’s prescribed medications, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements.
  • 5 Million Lives Campaign
    The 5 Million Lives Campaign is an initiative to engage U.S. hospitals in a commitment to implement changes in care proven to improve patient care and prevent avoidable deaths.
  • Disaster Planning
    South Carolina’s hospitals care for people under the most disastrous conditions. SCHA continues to make sure that hospitals have the information and support they need to prepare and weather these natural disasters.

  • Progressive Professionals Program
    The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences offers a comprehensive program on disruptive behavior.
