Richard Foster, M.D.

Dr. Foster is the Senior Vice President for Quality and Patient Safety with the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA). He also serves as Senior Medical Advisor for LifePoint, the Organ Procurement Organization for South Carolina.

Prior to joining the Hospital Association, Dr. Foster served as Chief Medical Officer for Trident Health System in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Foster received his Undergraduate Degree at Clemson University and his Medical Degree from MUSC. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, and was in the private practice of family medicine in Surfside Beach and Charleston.

Lorri Gibbons, RN, BSN, CPHQ

Ms. Gibbons is currently the Vice President of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA). Previously, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina and is currently a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality.

Prior to joining the SCHA staff, Lorri was involved in quality improvement activities at The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence (CCME) where she supported quality improvement initiatives for North and South Carolina nursing homes and home health agencies. She has served as the Collaborative Co-Director for three IHI-sponsored nursing home Collaboratives in South Carolina.

Lorri has previously worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator for Columbia Heart Clinic and the Medical University of South Carolina and as the evening supervisor and head nurse for the Med/Surg Unit of East Cooper Regional Medical Center in Mt Pleasant, South Carolina.

Karen Reeves, BSN, MHHA, FACHE

Karen Reeves is Vice President of Quality Compliance and Risk Management for the South Carolina Hospital Association. She has worked for the SCHA in various leadership positions since 1986 with responsibilities in Patient Safety, Quality, Public Reporting of Quality Measures, Risk Management, Clinical issues, Node for IHI, and The Joint Commission’s CSR for the Carolinas program.

Karen graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1976 with a BS in Nursing and in 1978 with a BA in Psychology. She attained a Master of Science in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1983. She is a Fellow, National Patient Safety Program (2004), certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt (2007), and TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer, Duke University Health System (2008).

Aunyika Moonan, PhD, MSPH, CPHQ

Aunyika Moonan, PhD, MSPH, CPHQ is the Director of Quality Measurement Services at SCHA where she provides her expertise in epidemiological and quality techniques to our member hospitals. She also develops, implements and analyzes clinical measurement databases established to support the work of the quality and patient safety initiatives and reports on patterns of health outcomes and quality of care.

She also provides training for hospitals regarding measuring quality improvement in healthcare. She is the key contact for our SC quality public reporting site, mySChospital.org. Dr. Moonan is also a liaison for the Office of Research and Statistics, where she works closely with the research staff regarding South Carolina’s health data.

Previously, she worked at the Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence as an Epidemiologist/Senior Analytic associate. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University and then continued on to obtain a Masters of Science in Public Health and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of South Carolina.

Paul V. Richter, MA, FASHE, CHSP

Paul Richter serves as the South Carolina Hospital Emergency Management Coordinator for the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA).  He has been with the SCHA since October 1992 when he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army, having served in key healthcare administration and healthcare construction positions throughout his 21-year career. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Samford University and Masters of Arts degrees in Health Facility Management and Business Administration from Webster University.

His credentials include being a Fellow with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (#885).  He served as a member of the Hospital Incident Command IV revision committee as a secondary reviewer.  Paul represents South Carolina Hospitals while serving as a member of the South Carolina Counter Terrorism Coordinating Council, the South Carolina Bioterrorism Advisory Board, the South Carolina Earthquake Education Advisory Board, a member of the SC Emergency Preparedness Division’s Consequence Management Committee, and other various disaster planning task forces for the state.  Paul is also an adjunct instructor with Texas Engineering Extension Service, Texas A&M University.

Paul currently serves as a member of the ASHE Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness Committee and has served previously on their Emerging Trends Committee, Safety and Security Committee and their Recognition Committee.  He was a member of the Healthcare Subcommittee of the Codes and Standards Review Committee of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) from 1993 – 1998.  He authored the ASHE Technical Document “Hospital Disaster Preparedness: Meeting a Requirement or Preparing for the Worst,” 1997, “Disaster Recovery,” 2000, “Hospital Incident Command System (HICS),” 2007, and “Hospital Disaster Preparedness: Meeting a Requirement or Preparing for the Worst  - An Update (11Years After),” 2009.  He also served on the editorial advisory board for the video “STORMWATCH!  Hurricane Preparedness for Hospitals” and has advised on various articles for professional magazines.

Kimberly Hubbard, MHA

Kimberly graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 2008, where she obtained a Master in Health Administration degree, and from the University of South Carolina (USC) in 2005, where she completed her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Medical Humanities.  Kimberly completed her Administrative Residency in Quality and Patient Safety with the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) and is now a Project Coordinator for the Quality and Patient Safety team at SCHA. She is responsible for instituting the Institute of Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) Open School at USC, MUSC, and Clemson and also works on many other initiatives to promote quality and patient safety in South Carolina.

Mary Stargel

Mary Stargel is currently the Administrative Coordinator for the Quality and Patient Safety team for the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA). As Administrative Coordinator, Mary directs all communication and administrative support for the Quality and Patient Safety team. Previously, Mary held the position of Office Manager at Aiken Housing Center in Aiken, SC.
