South Carolina Hospitals are Redefining Clinical Care and Advancing Patient Safety

The notion that every patient counts has become a shared vision of South Carolina’s hospitals. Improving patient safety is a journey hospitals in our state have willingly embraced.

As Patsy Martin, assistant vice president with Trident Medical Center in Charleston simply states, “We do it because it is the right thing and that’s what hospitals are all about.” Indeed, ensuring every patient receives the right care every time requires commitment, hard work, creativity, and collaboration as the following stories so eloquently illustrate.

Mentor Hospitals

Hospital collaboration is a major tenet of the South Carolina Hospital Association’s Every Patient Counts initiative to advance patient safety and healthcare quality. This has proved to be the best and most efficient way to promote a clear understanding and adoption of best demonstrated practices that are scientifically proven to deliver positive results. Some hospitals are serving as “mentor hospitals” and work closely with others on implementing best practices.

Currently, these South Carolina hospitals are Every Patient Counts mentor hospitals:

  • Aiken Regional Medical Centers
  • AnMed Health
  • McLeod Health
  • Oconee Memorial Hospital
  • Palmetto Health Baptist
  • Self Regional Healthcare
